Parasites live in our bodies, no matter how clean our diets are. They are organisms that depend on a host to survive and spread. Mostly we can avoid parasitic infections by washing our hands, cooking meat properly and drinking clean water. But, in some cases they feed, grow and reproduce in a way that can harm the host.
Parasites and Parasitic infections are common. We can pick them up easily and show no obvious symptoms, we live with both good and bad parasites in our body. Some parasites just go away on their own if you have a healthy immune system and diet but others might overwhelm your system and make you feel tired and unwell.

Parasites that live inside your gastrointestinal tract are called "Helminths". Your gastrointestinal tract starts at your mouth, connects to your stomach, small intestine, large intestine and them finishes at your anus.
The main types of Helminths include: Flukes (Trematodes, Tapeworms (Cestodes) and Roundworms (Nematodes). These are visible to the naked eye in their adult forms.
There are also parasites called "Protozoans", these can only be seen with a microscope. They may lives in your intestines, blood or tissues.
