Yoni SteamingYoni Steaming is a powerful ritual for your vitality in nourishing and detoxing the womb and the sacral chakra area. Yoni Steaming or Vaginal steaming is an ancient practice that can help with the following:

  • Strengthening the Uterus to aid lighter bleeds

The Yoni steam process involves sitting over a steaming pot of herb-infused water, generally for about 10-30 minutes. As the steam rises and the herbs penetrate the delicate vaginal tissue, cleansing and soothing.

Each herb used for steaming has its own unique benefits, and the right herbs for your mixture depend on your specific needs and wants.

It’s very important that you take precautions to ensure your health and safety whenever you yoni steam. Here are a few important steps to take to avoid any potential yoni steam side effects and risks:

  • If the steam is too hot, you could burn the sensitive vaginal tissues. Make sure when you sit/squat above the steam, you feel comfortable with the temperature of the steam and are not simply “bearing the heat”.
  • Do not steam longer than 30 minutes. We recommend that you talk with a yoni steam practitioner about the length of steam time that is best for you. Listen to your body.
  • Make sure your pot and any other equipment you use are thoroughly cleaned before use, in order to avoid unnecessary irritation and infections, such as yeast infections.
  • Yoni steaming is not recommended during your period or during pregnancy.

How to do a Yoni Steam:

  1. Place a bowl inside your toilet so that it sits comfortably inside and low enough as not to touch your body.
  2. In a medium-covered saucepan add 20g of your yoni steaming herbs, then add 8-10 cups of water.
  3. Bring water to a soft boil for 5 minutes.
  4. Turn of the heat, leave the lid on, and steep for another 5 minutes with the lid on.
  5. TEST THE TEMPERATURE OF THE STEAM BEFORE USING IT. If it is too hot wait 15 seconds and test it again until it feels comfortably warm to steam with.
  6. Pour 4-5 cups (half) of the infused water into the bowl you have placed in your toilet.
  7. Test the temperature by waving your hand 8-10 inches over the herbal water to make sure it is not too hot.
  8. Remove your underwear and sit on the seat above the steaming water.
  9. Wear a long wide skirt or drape a large blanket or sheet around your waist down to the floor making sure no steam escapes.
  10. Make sure you keep yourself warm, keeping something on your feet (socks, slippers) and neck. You do not want any cold to get into your body while you are trying to warm it.
  11. You should feel a warm, rolling heat for about 10-12 minutes.
  12. When the steam dies down dump the water into the toilet. Starting with step #6 begin the second dosage.
  13. If it has cooled too much reheat but test again before sitting over the steam.

Please note:

  • this can temporarily increase menstrual flow with more dark fluids or debris. Your period may start earlier than usual due to the cleansing effect.
  • do not steam longer than 30 minutes
  • clean all equipment prior to use, including the toilet.
  • yoni steaming is not recommended during your period or during pregnancy.
