Spagyrics - Ancient Medicine for a Changing Consciousness ☾⋆⁺₊⋆
I often have people asking me about this process and why it is so magical.
Spagyrics is one of the oldest plant essence extraction methods, rooted in ancient Hermetic, Egyptian and medieval alchemy. These plant essences are considered to be one of the most scared and holistic ways of creating plant medicine. They work on a vibrational level and so they not only assist with physical ailments that we can feel or see, they work on a much deeper level in the emotional/mind/spirit spheres.
The word “spagyrics” is derived from the Greek words: spao (to draw out) and agerio (to unite). By separating the three basic principles (Oils, Alcohol and Mineral Salts) of a plant and then recombining them the end product is unlike any other tincture or extract.
I particularly resonate with the founder of this process, Paracelsus, a famous Swiss medieval physician. Although he studied science, theology, the humanities and medicine at top European Universities he rejected their writings. Being a disruptor for most of my life, I truly connected to his teachings, he saw well beyond the world as we see it with our basic senses. He said:
“The universities do not teach all things, so a doctor must seek out old wives, gipsies, sorcerers, wandering tribes, old robbers and such outlaws and take lessons from them. A doctor must be a traveler...knowledge is experience.”
He believed that nature was the ultimate healer and that any illness could be cured by studying the rhythms and patterns of nature. He quotes:
“Nature is the physician, not you. From her you must learn, not from yourself. She compounds the remedies, not you. See to it that you find out where Nature has her pharmacies, where her virtues have been written down, and in what boxes they are stored.”
Paracelsus believed that true alchemy was in the making of medicines. In his view, as humans, we have been gifted the divine task to evolve natural substances to a “higher order”. We can achieve this by the teachings of Paracelsus.
What is Spagyrics?
Alchemy is an ancient practice that unites the worlds of science and spirituality.
According to Ancient Alchemical Spagyric Philosophy, all plants have three elements called the “Tri Prima”: Salt, Sulfur and Mercury. This is the plants Body, Soul and Spirit. These three components represent the physical, spiritual and energetic parts of the plant.
Just saying that out loud gives me goosebumps!
Spagyrics is a method developed by Paracelsus where he improves the effectiveness of existing medicines by separating them into their primordial elements and then recombining them again.
According to the ancient heretics and alchemists, everything manifests from one source: The Prima Materia, the original material of the universe.
The Prima Materia then splits into two: The Celestial Salt and Celestial Niter - masculine and feminine energies, or active and receptive qualities.
From Celestial Salt and Celestial Niter, we get fixed and volatile components which the alchemist and spagyrisits understood as Earth, Water (fixed), and Air, Fire (volatile). These four elements give birth to Salt (earth, water), Mercury (water, air), and Sulphur (air, fire).
All herbal extractions go through a refining process; the spagyric method goes a step further. Liquid extracts get most of the plant compounds but leave minerals behind. Minerals simply aren’t very soluble. The spagyric process burns the plant material after the liquid extraction is complete. This controlled burn, called calcining, reduces the plant to a white ash of pure and soluble minerals. The potent mineral “spirit” salts are extracted and when combined with the liquid, a true full-spectrum tincture results.
This process is truly magical and one I feel very grateful to have mastered. There is nothing more powerful than reaching back into the ancient mystery of alchemy and bringing it forward into this timeline.
